Adhir Kalyan

Adhir Kalyan, a South African actor, is currently engaged to actress Emily Wilson. He is best known for playing Timmy in the CBS sitcom “Rules of Engagement.” Adhir Kalyan was born to a politician mother Santosh Vinita Kalyan, who served in the South African National Assembly as a Democratic Alliance representative, and father Jitendra Kalyan. Adhir finished his education at Crawford College in Durban.

He moved to London at the age of twenty to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Adhir Kalyan debuted in the BBC series “Holby City” (series 8) as Arjmand Younis in Spooks (series 5). Kalyan also played Pahud, a teenager, in the films Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. In the fifth season of the cable show Nip/Tu, he played recurring characters. He proposed to Emily Wilson, an actress. There are no signs of the couple’s separation because they appear to be very happy with each other.

Prior to moving abroad, he appeared in a number of South African productions, including stage adaptations of Charles Dickens’s Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol, an adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s The Ground Beneath Her Feet, and the classic Shakespearean play Macbeth.

Career

Kalyan moved to Lenasia South in 2005 to pursue his acting career, where he landed roles in the BBC series Holby City (series 8) as Arjmand Younis, Spooks (series 5), and Fair City on the Irish network RTÉ One as Ramal Kirmani. Kalyan has also appeared in several independent films.

Kalyan appeared as a foreign exchange student from Pakistan living with a Wisconsin family in the short-lived American CW Television Network sitcom Aliens in America.

He appeared as a recurring character in the fifth season of the cable show Nip/Tuck, as well as in the third season of the CBS sitcom Rules of Engagement, where he became a series regular in the fourth season.

In 2009, Kalyan appeared in Paul Blart: Mall Cop as Pahud, a teenager who admired his girlfriend Parisa, Up in the Air as a fired employee, and Fired Up as a cheerleader. In 2010, he was in Youth in Revolt, and in 2011, he was in No Strings Attached in a minor role.

He began starring in the Fox science fiction crime drama Second Chance in late 2015.

Kalyan was cast as Afghan interpreter Awalmir (“Al”), the main protagonist in the CBS sitcom United States of Al, in December 2019. The sitcom premiered on April 1, 2021, amid controversy. The United States of Al and its creators were chastised for the show’s humor, use of antiquated tropes, and, in particular, the casting of a South-African-born Indian actor to play an Afghan lead and his use of an inauthentic accent.

Private life

He proposed to General Hospital actress Emily Wilson in April 2015. On October 1, 2016, he married Wilson at Umgeni Road Temple.
