After appearing in films such as ‘War Games,’ ‘The Breakfast Club,’ ‘St. Elmo’s Fire,’ ‘Short Circuit,’ and ‘Maid to Order,’ she became increasingly well-known. In 1998, she co-starred with Radha Mitchell in the independent film ‘High Art.’ In 1999, she starred as Hedwig in an off-Broadway version of the musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” Ally became the first woman to play the genderqueer Hedwig, although her performance was met with mixed reviews. In the same year, she starred in the film ‘Sugar Town.’

Ally first appeared in the show ‘Kyle XY’ on March 3, 2008, in the episode ‘Leapin’ Lizards of ‘C.S.I.’ and was introduced as Sarah in the episode ‘Leapin’ Lizards of ‘C.S.I.’ On the USA Network television drama ‘Psych,’ she played Mr. Yang and returned the character in the fourth, fifth, and seventh season finales.
