Following a violent dispute with an unidentified assailant, he was shot and killed at the Westminster, California, 76 petrol station on July 13, 2022. He was filling up his car when Trent Millsap came over and they started talking.

Millsap stabbed East in the chest, and after being brought to the hospital, he succumbed to his wounds. Millsap was later found to be hiding in an apartment in nearby Anaheim while being detained on a parole violation. He was slain in a gunfight with the Orange County police.

At the 2001 USAC National Midget race at the Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana, he set a record by becoming the youngest driver to win a feature event at the age of 16. His success only increased after he captured the USAC National Midget Series in 2004. The chassis for the Steve Lewis Racing Number 9 that he was driving was made by his father. He won 15 competitions in the three series divisions in the 2004 USAC season.

He won seven national midgets, five national sprint cars, and one of each in addition to victories in the Silver Crown, Western States Sprint Car, and Speedrome Regional Midget Series. Also, He triumphed in the Hut Hundred as well as the Turkey Night Grand Prix. He switched to stock car racing after a successful season. He was initially barred from competing in two of the three NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races.

He was the driver of Roush Racing’s Number 33 Ford. He qualified in Phoenix, but after wrecking his car there, he finished 30th overall. Also, He also failed to qualify for the Homestead season-ending event, when he drove the Number 21 for Wood Brothers/JTG Racing. He made his ARCA Re/Max Series debut at Talladega in 2005. He was a K Automotive Racing driver of the No. 29 Ford. Also, He debuted in the NASCAR Busch Series at Memphis in 2005. He finished 17th while piloting ST Motorsports’ No. 46.

He finished 23rd in points in 2006. After participating with Baker Curb Racing in 2007, he returns to the Truck Series in 2008. In addition, after rejoining Roush, he drove the Number 09 Zaxby’s Ford F-150 to victory in the race at IRP. In 2008, he won the Copper World Classic. After failing to qualify for the race, he made his final effort in NASCAR in the Carl Edwards Cup Series Nationwide Series. In his later years, he did not compete in the elite division.
