Career and Professional Life of Carl Lewis:

Lewis began competing in the long jump when he was thirteen years old. He also named New Jersey’s top junior long jumpers.

In 1979, he set a national record by breaking the high school record with a leap of only 8.13m. Following that, he received training from Tom Tellez at the University of Houston. According to Track and Field News, by the end of 1979, Lewis was ranked fifth in the world in the long jump.

He won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship in 1980. Lewis was ranked second in the history of the long jump in 1981. In the same year, he was named the world’s fastest 100m sprinter.

Lewis also competed in the 1984 Olympics, winning gold medals in the long jump, 100m, 200m, and 4*100m relay race. However, he was unable to beat Ben Johnson in the 100m sprint in 1985 and 1986.

In the 1987 World Championships’ second season, he won gold medals in the long jump and the 4*100 relay race. Similarly, he won one of the most difficult 100m races at the World Championships, setting a new world record of 9.86.

Lewis retired from track and field in 1997. He currently owns C.L.E.G., a marketing and branding firm.
