He started playing football at Wylie High School. Case passed for 6,783 yards and 48 touchdowns while rushing for 41 touchdowns and 2,000 yards for the Bulldogs in high school. He began his college career with the Houston Cougars in 2006. In 2006, he redshirted his freshman year. Case Keenum made his collegiate debut against Oregon on September 1, 2007, as the Cougars opened the season. Against the Ducks, he completed 14 of 27 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown while also gaining 47 yards on nine carries.

He started at quarterback in seven of the season’s thirteen games. He threw for 2,259 yards, 14 touchdowns, and ten interceptions in total. Case Keenum was a rookie quarterback who went undrafted and signed with the Houston Texans. In 2013, he was the Texans’ third-string quarterback, behind starter Matt Schaub and backup quarterback T. J. Yates on the 53-man roster. In his pro debut on October 20, he threw his first NFL touchdown pass, a 29-yarder to DeAndre Hopkins. Furthermore, he completed 15 of 25 passes for 271 yards and a touchdown, good for the highest passer rating by a Texan quarterback this season. Houston, on the other hand, was defeated 17-16.

On August 31, 2014, he was released by the Texans. The St. Louis Rams claimed him off waivers the next day, and he was released on October 28th, 2014.
