David Raymond Wannstedt was born in Baldwin, Pennsylvania on May 21, 1952. He is the son of Frank Wannstedt and Virginia Wannstedt in where he lives. In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dave attended Baldwin High School. Following that, he received an athletic scholarship to play offensive tackle at the University of Pittsburgh.
Professional Career of Dave Wannstedt
Green Bay Packers drafted him in the fifteenth round in 1974, but he spent his only NFL season on the injured reserve list due to a neck injury.
Coaching as a profession
Johnny Majors hired him as a graduate assistant coach in 1975. He was, however, on the coaching staff when the Panthers won the NCAA Division I-A National Football Championship in 1976. He worked as a defensive line coach for the Oklahoma State Cowboys in 1979 and 1980 before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 1981. Dave was hired as the Chicago Bears’ head coach on February 19, 1993, succeeding Mike Ditka. Similarly, in his six years with the Bears, he led them to only one postseason appearance.
He joined the Miami Dolphins as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach in 1999. However, he resigned as head coach in the middle of the 2004 season, with the Dolphins’ record sitting at 1-8. On December 23, 2004, he accepted Pitt’s offer. He was, however, appointed as the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh. Whereas the previous year, he inherited a Pitt team that shared the Big East Championship and played in the Fiesta Bowl.

Wannstedt has been a Fox Sports football studio analyst since 2014, and he has appeared on FOX NFL Kickoff Sunday Mornings during the NFL season. Similarly, on August 29, 2019, he served as an analyst for the Chicago Bears preseason game broadcast.
