David Alan Grier

Once you’ve made friends with the Wayans brothers, you can say your career is set. The same thing happened to comedian David Alan Grier. We’ve seen him in a lot of movies and TV shows, but how well do we know him? Let us investigate.

David was born on June 30, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan. One of three children born to a schoolteacher, Aretas Ruth, and a psychiatrist and co-writer father, Henry Grier, who marched for poverty alongside Dr. Martin Luther King.

Grier and his siblings were exposed to literature, movies, music, culture, and politics at a young age to ensure that they had a well-rounded education. Grier graduated from Magnet High School, earned a B.A. from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama.

With so much love and passion for acting, David got his first break right after graduating from Yale, starring in the Broadway musical The First. Despite the fact that the musical was short-lived, Grier made enough of an impression to be nominated for a Tony Award.

Despite some notable roles following The First, he rose to prominence after starring in the critically acclaimed sketch comedy-variety series “In Living Color.” Grier’s path to success was paved by the phenomenal success of In Living Color. He went on to appear in over 50 films, television shows, and plays, including Saturday Night Live, Cosby, Kenan & Kel, Jumanji, Stuart Little, and others.

He most recently appeared as Joe Carmichael in the sitcom The Carmichael Show, and he is also set to appear in the upcoming film The Rocking Horsemen.

Unfortunately, Kim filed for divorce on June 9, 2009, due to irreconcilable differences, making her no longer his wife.
