David Stern

David Stern, an American businessman and lawyer, was best known as the NBA’s fourth commissioner. From 1984 to 2014, he served as NBA commissioner. Additionally, he held the positions of Executive Vice President and General Counsel.

David Stern was born in New York City on 22 September 1942 and died on 1 January 2020. He was 77 years old at the time of his death and was a Virgo by birth. He was an American national and used to identify as white. Regarding his education, he graduated from Columbia University as a history student in 1963 and then from Columbia Law School in 1966. Additionally, he was admitted to the bar in New York later that year after passing the state’s bar examination.

David, who served as the NBA’s longest-serving commissioner for 30 years, died on Wednesday at the age of 77. He was in critical condition following a brain hemorrhage on December 12. After two weeks of emergency surgery, he was declared brain dead due to hemorrhage.

Numerous friends and colleagues expressed their condolences to him. Commissioner Adam Silver, who was beside Stern’s bedside when he died, expressed sympathy for Stern and his family via Twitter. That is what he wrote;

“I had a courtside seat for 22 years to watch David play. As with every NBA legend, David possessed extraordinary abilities, but he was always focused on the fundamentals – preparation, attention to detail, and perseverance”.

“Our hearts go out to David’s wife, Dianne, their sons, Andrew and Eric, and their extended family, and we share our sorrow with everyone whose life he touched”.

He is now survived by his wife and children.

David began his professional career in 1966 with the NBA. He was hired as an outside counsel by the law firm Rose, Goetz, Proskauer, and Mendelsohn later that year. The NBA was pleased with his work in 1978, and NBA commissioner Larry O’Brien offered him a lucrative position as the NBA’s general counsel. He then left his law firm to take on the role of general counsel. And through hard work, he advanced within a couple of years, and by 1980, he was serving as the NBA’s executive vice president.

Then, in 1984, he saw his position solidified, which paid off handsomely when he received another offer to serve as NBA commissioner. As a result of his appointment, the NBA became a highly profitable enterprise. As a result, the 1990s and 2000s are still regarded as the NBA’s golden era.
