After that, he joined the Atlantic Theater Company’s 2006 off-Broadway production, which ultimately transferred to Broadway. He also played Dr. Ed Costello in sixteen episodes of RTÉ’s The Clinic. He received an Irish Film and Television Award nomination for Best Actor in a TV Drama. In January 2012, he starred alongside Eddie Izzard in the Sky One adaptation of Treasure Island. Following that, he played Chief Engineer Joseph Bell on the Titanic in the docudrama Saving the Titanic.

He also had a supporting part as the cantankerous bearded Police Sergeant Donald Atherton in the BBC One drama Ripper Street. Meanwhile, he played Captain Connor, a police officer, in TNT’s 2018 production of The Alienist. Additionally, he portrayed Israel Hands in Season 4 of the Starz pirate series Black Sails.
