Deandre’s family then sent him to San Diego, where he enrolled in Balboa City School, on the advice of the coaches. His mother finally divorced his father and married Alvin Ayton, his stepfather, not long after. He eventually relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, to be with his new family and enroll at Hillcrest Prep Academy.

Career in High School

Deandre enrolled at San Diego’s Balboa School and played there for two years. In his sophomore season, the 6 feet 11-inch tall player led Balboa to a 17-14 record by averaging 21 points, 16 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks per game. Ayton then spent his final two years of high school at Hillcrest Prep in Arizona. Marvin Bagley III, who presently plays for the Sacramento Kings, was a Prep School teammate. He averaged 29.2 points, 16.7 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks per game in 2015-16. The following year, Ayton put on one of his best performances in high school.
