Early career

Before going into radio, Eamonn Holmes worked for a Dublin-based business magazine. In 1979, he became a host and reporter for Ulster Television’s Farming Ulster program. Following that, he assists in the coverage of sporting events throughout the province. In 1982, he joined Ulster Television’s flagship Good Evening Ulster program as a news and current affairs anchor. Eamonn was the third candidate for the show’s host.

He has also hosted other Ulster Television productions, including the Miss Northern Ireland gala, in addition to his news and current affairs duties. With Ulster Television, he won the Hometown Radio Award.
