Halil was born in the Bulgarian town of Postnik on July 14, 1973. His father, Alil Mutlu, and mother, Hatice Mutlu, are his parents. His parents were also of Turkish descent.

As a result, he followed in his ethnicity’s footsteps and defected to Turkey in 1989. Naim Suleymanoglu influenced Halil shortly after he landed in Turkey.

Naim was a Turkish weightlifter who competed professionally. He fled Bulgaria to avoid the government’s “Bulgarization” of the Turkish minority.

Furthermore, Halil changed his name from Hubenov to Halil after landing in Turkey. Halil did it to prove his Turkish ancestry.

He goes on to become a member of Anakara shortly after. It is one of Turkey’s most well-known weightlifting teams.

Halil also began weight lifting competitively at the age of 18. He also finished fifth in the 55 kg weight event at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Halil also won the World Championship and the European Championship shortly after.

He did, however, lose first place to Zhang Xiasnseng in an international tournament. At the 1995 World Championships, a Chinese weightlifter defeated Halil.

Halil has a happy marriage. Since the early 1990s, he has been married. Mutlu, too, exchanged vows with the lovely Seher Mutlu.

Halil had established almost 20 world records by the end of 1999, and he had won gold at the 1999 World Championships.

As a result, in the same year, he was crowned Turkey’s Best Sportsman of the Year.

Halil Mutlu also established three world records in the clean and jerk (167.5 kg), snatch (138 kg), and total weight lifted (305 kg).

Injury

Due to a shoulder injury in 2003, Halil was forced to compete in the 62 kg division.

Furthermore, a ruptured biceps and damaged right rotator cuff put Hali’s career in risk, forcing him to miss most of 2002.

During the 2004 Olympic Games, Halil Mutlu, on the other hand, won his third gold medal in a row.

During the contest, Halil outlifted Wu Meijin by 5 kg in the snatch. He also won by extending his lead in the weight class by 7.5 kg.

Moreover, at the end of the 2004 Athens Olympics, Mutlu had won the global title five times.

Steroid Prohibition

Mutlu tested positive for anabolic drugs shortly after his Olympic victory in Athens. As a result, the International Weightlifting Federation suspended him from sports for two years.

Mutlu, on the other hand, stated that he did not use the awareness steroids. Nonetheless, the Turkish Weightlifting Federation and the athlete were charged with “anti-doping offences.”

He also started preparing for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In July of that year, Halil announced his resignation from the race.

In regards to his withdrawal, Halil revealed that he was unable to lift his target weight in practice. As a result, he was ejected from the ASKI as a punishment.
