“If he is deserving, he should be. If he has the talent to play,” Trump stated during an interview with Washington, DC’s WJLA-TV.

“He started out great and then faded away as a player. He was outstanding throughout his debut season. I believe he was excellent in his second year before something happened. As a result, his playing was subpar.”

Trump added,

“Without a doubt, I would. With regards to kneeling, I’d want to see him receive another chance. However, he must be able to play well. If he is unable to perform well, I believe it would be unjust.”

The conversations take place while the state is engulfed by protests over the murder of Geroge Floyd, who was detained by police. Additionally, Trump’s remarks came after Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson urged the President to reconsider kneeling.

“Well, I don’t believe he’s shown quite as much hostility in that region recently. And I believe we will continue to collaborate with him. He will arrive.”

Carson, the President’s sole black Cabinet member, stated this during an interview with conservative radio presenter Hugh Hewitt. Simultaneously, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stated Monday on ESPN that he would support any team interested in signing Kaepernick.

“Well, listen, if he wishes to restart his NFL career, it is evident that a team will make that determination. However, I applaud that decision and encourage clubs to make it.”
