In the 2016–17 season, he made his debut for the first team, starting at left defender in a 3–1 victory over freshly relegated Championship team Aston Villa at home in the EFL Cup first round on August 10, 2016. Later, he agreed to a new two-and-a-half-year deal that would keep him at Luton through the summer of 2019 with an additional year’s option, and the Luton Town management staff chose him as the Young Player of the Season.

In a 4-1 victory against Accrington Stanley on April 29, 2017, he scored his first goal as a professional.
