Jenji Kohan married Christopher Noxon, a well-known journalist, in 1997, but the couple divorced 11 years later in 2018. Charlie, Eliza, and Oscar were their three children, however Charlie died in a skiing accident on December 31, 2019.

They then worked on “The Stones,” a sitcom that was not a commercial hit. She served as the executive producer and head writer for the whole eight-season run of the dark comedic drama series “Weeds.” She next created “Orange Is the New Black,” a Netflix comedy-drama series for which she worked as executive producer and chief writer once more.

The show has become one of Netflix’s most popular original series. She also owns Tilted Productions, a writing company, as well as the famed Hayworth Theatre in Los Angeles. She’s also worked as an executive producer on “GLOW,” a comedy-drama series.
