Jerry Stackhouse is a well-known and well-respected former basketball player who spent 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and is currently the head coach. Making the highest number of 2380 during the NBA 2000-01 season was his best feat. Stackhouse is the head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores, as well as the previous head coach of the Raptors 905 and an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies.

Stackhouse is the younger brother of former CBA player and one-time forward Tony Dawson of the Sacramento Kings and Boston Celtics, as well as the uncle of former Wake Forest University guard Craig Dawson. Stackhouse has been a top player since he was a sophomore in high school.

Stackhouse’s senior year, he played for Oak Hill Academy and led them to an undefeated season with future college teammate Jeff McInnis. He was a two-time Parade All-America team member and the MVP of the McDonald’s All-American Game. At the 1992 Nike Camp, he and Rasheed Wallace were regarded as the top players. Some consider Stackhouse to be the best prep player to come out of North Carolina since Michael Jordan.

Jerry Stackhouse, the 11th of eleven children, was born on November 5, 1974, in Kinston, North Carolina, to George and Minnie Stackhouse. Stackhouse, who grew up in a family where his mother was a shepherd, spent a lot of time in church. Stackhouse began to establish a pattern of behavior and attitude at this time that would eventually propel him to the NBA’s top spot.

Jerry Stackhouse, the youngest of eleven children, learnt the concept of “team” as a child. A combination of religion, close family ties, and athleticism set him on the path to a successful collegiate basketball career and a spot in the NBA’s annual draft.

In the 2002 summer, Stackhouse was moved to the Washington Wizards in a six-player transaction that also included Richard Hamilton. Stackhouse was drafted first overall by Christian Laettner and the Wizards in the 2004 offseason (Devin Harris). On July 8, 2009, Stackhouse was moved to the Memphis Grizzlies in a four-way transaction. On October 23, 2010, Stackhouse signed a contract with the Miami Heat. He agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Nets on July 11, 2012.

The Toronto Raptors hired Stackhouse as an assistant coach on June 29, 2015. On September 9, 2016, he was hired head coach of the Raptors 905, the NBA Development League affiliate of the organization. Stackhouse was named head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores on April 5, 2019, after signing a six-year contract.

Jerry Stackhouse appeared in two NBA all-star exhibition games between 2000 and 2001. Stackhouse was also named Sports Illustrated Player of the Year in 1995. Stackhouse was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1996, a honor he received from the league. He was also named the 2017 NBA D-League Coach of the Year.
