Eddie tried joining the police force before pursuing music as a professional career, following in the footsteps of his father, grandparents, and brother. He started as a New York City Department trainee, but quickly recognized that it wasn’t for him since he couldn’t envision himself in the police for the next 20 years with short hair.

He also didn’t get along with his bandmates, who didn’t want a law representative in their band. When Eddie’s father found out about his decision to leave the police force for music, he was furious and tore down the poster of Jimmy Hendrix that Eddie had in his bed.

Eddie travelled to Berkley, California in 1968, when he began voice training with Judy Davis and changed his name to Eddie Money. His debut self-titled studio album was an instant success, reaching platinum status in the United States. Eddie married Margo Lee Walker, a Los Angeles student, on February 14, 1984; the couple wanted the ceremony to be secret, but admirers saw them and showed up. Within a few years, the couple divorced. From 1989 until his death, he was married to Laurie Harris, with whom he had five children.

Eddie underwent heart valve surgery in July 2019 but contracted pneumonia as a result of the procedure. He was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophagal cancer in August of the same year, and he died on September 13th, 2019 in a Los Angeles hospital. Eddie’s fortune was believed to be worth $20 million at the time of his death.
