Joseph Fidler Walsh was born in Wichita, Kansas, according to his biography. Walsh was adopted by his stepfather at the age of five after his biological father died in an aircraft crash. His mother was a professionally trained pianist of Scottish and German origin.

While the three men worked independently on Michael Stanley’s Friends and Legends, they did communicate. After Barnstorm broke up, Vitale remained a buddy of Walsh’s. Pretty Maids All in a Row featured on Hotel California by the Eagles (1976).
