John William Oates, a well-known vocalist, was born on April 7, 1948, in New York City, New York, United States. His ethnicity is Italian, and he is an American citizen.

His mother was a Salerno-born Italian immigrant, and his father was born in Gibraltar to an English father and a Gibraltarian mother who claimed ancient Moorish ancestry. Furthermore, his family relocated to a little hamlet outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the early 1950s. He has a passion for singing since he was a child. In 1966, John graduated from North Penn High School. He subsequently went on to Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he met Daryl Hall.

He began his career with The Masters for Philadelphia-based Crimson Records, with his first single “I Need Your Love.” The pair Hall & Oates was created in 1972. They have sold over 80 million sales worldwide on their 21 albums, making them the most successful pop–rock duo in history.

Oates did not record a solo album until 2002’s Phunk Shui. Oates collaborated on the song “Greatest Mistake” by Handsome Boy Modeling School with Jamie Cullum. That song can be found on the album White People, which was released in 2004. 1000 Miles of Life, Oates’ second solo album, was released on August 23, 2008.

In March 2010, Oates performed as a surprise guest with the indie rock band The Bird and the Bee. On October 1, 2011, Margo Rey’s song “Let the Rain,” co-written by John Oates, scored at #24 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Tracks. On March 11, 2013, Oates released a new single, “Stand Strong,” which he co-wrote with Teddy Morgan. In 2015, Oates released Another Good Road. St. Martin’s Press published his book, Change of Seasons (9781250082657), on March 28, 2017. John Oates has used effects and a variety of instruments throughout his musical career, and he promotes a number of manufacturers and brands.
