A walkthrough session of the San Francisco 49ers was videotaped during the team’s Week 8 game at Wembley Stadium, it was discovered when Steve Scarnecchia, the team’s head of video operations appointed by McDaniels in 2009, was implicated in the probe.

The Broncos and McDaniels received a $50,000 fine from the NFL the same day, and Scarnecchia was fired as a result of the incident.

Scarnecchia told NFL investigators that he acted alone and “knew it was wrong” to record the walkthrough practice after the rest of the Broncos personnel left.

Both the NFL and the Broncos concluded that McDaniels was not aware of the occurrence following the investigation conducted by the NFL security.

A forensic examination of the computer from which Scarnecchia later deleted the tape was also part of the inquiry.

However, the NFL fined McDaniels because he did not immediately report the incident to the league office as required by law.
