He was the only player in LSWA history to receive recognition on both sides of the ball for the 5A All-State squad. On December 20, 2016, Collins was announced as a Pro Bowler for 2016. On January 14, 2017, Collins was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Year. He came in at number 92 on the 2018 NFL Top 100 Players list. He said that he needed surgery on his right forearm during the offseason of 2018. During the trade season, he was a subject of trade rumors, but nothing came of it. They defeated the Chicago Bears in the 13th week. He played in and started 12 games, recording 96 total tackles, four pass breakups, and one forced fumble. On March 13, 2019, he agreed to a six-year, $84 million contract with the Washington Redskins as an unrestricted free agent for the upcoming season.

In Week 2’s matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, Collins recorded a team-high 12 tackles, but the Redskins fell short 31–21. In addition, he led the squad with a team-high 12 tackles and one sack in Week 6’s 17-16 victory over the Miami Dolphins. This player was chosen as the NFC defensive player of the week for his accomplishments. After Adrian Peterson was cut before the 2020 season began, he switched to his collegiate number #26 and gave Jimmy Moreland his old number #20. The second week of the season, against the Arizona Cardinals, Collins recorded his first sack and interception.

He suffered an Achilles tendon tear in Week 7’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, and on October 27 he was placed on injured reserve. After several linebackers suffered injuries, Washington made the decision to switch Collins to a hybrid safety linebacker position in October 2021. He forced a turnover on running back Alex Collins in Week 12’s 17-15 victory over the Seattle Seahawks for Washington. Collins recorded his first interception of the year, along with two sacks, against Dak Prescott in Week 14’s contest against the Dallas Cowboys.

The following week, he had an interception off a ball that bounced off Dallas Goedert’s foot, one pass deflection, and one fumble recovery against the Philadelphia Eagles. In that game, he injured his foot, and on December 24 he was put on injured reserve. The organization identified Collins as a post-June 1 release on March 16, 2022. On October 6, 2022, he returned to the Giants and joined their practice squad.
