Lisa Marie Presley died earlier this month after going into cardiac arrest at her Calabasas home. She was 54 years old. Her mother and three daughters, Riley Keough, 33, Harper Lockwood, 14, and Finley Lockwood, 14, survive her. Benjamin Keough, her son, died in July 2020 at the age of 27.

Priscilla Presley paid tribute to her child by reading a poem written by one of Lisa Marie Presley’s daughters instead of delivering a personal eulogy.

“‘I don’t know how to put my mother into words. ‘The truth is that there are far too many,’ read Priscilla Presley on behalf of her granddaughter. “‘To many people around the world, Lisa Marie Presley was an icon, a role model, and a superhero. But Mama was an icon, a role model, and a superhero in more ways than one.

“She could tell it was getting close to the end. Some might call it survivor’s guilt. Her death, however, was caused by a broken heart. Now that she is back where she belongs, my heart longs for her love. She knew I adored her. I’m afraid I’ll never be able to touch her, but the old soul is always with me. She does not float above.’ That says it all, and thank you all for coming. Lisa, our hearts are broken. “We all adore you.”

During the service, Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins sang “To Sheila” acoustically, and Morissette sang “Rest” accompanied by a piano. Rose of Guns N’ Roses was one of the day’s final performers, making a few remarks before performing a passionate piano rendition of “November Rain.”

“I feel like I should be texting [Lisa Marie Presley] right now, saying, ‘I’m here,'” she says. Everyone is telling her how wonderful they are. “I never in a million years imagined singing here, let alone under these conditions,” Rose said. “This is truly devastating and, I’m sure, excruciating for everyone here and all those affected by her passing. …

“She was extremely proud — as proud as anyone could be — of her father and his accomplishments, his place in music… and American and world history. [Lisa Marie Presley was] a friend, a loved one, a beautiful and good soul, and a treasured and much-missed family member. Lisa is loved and missed by many, and she will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.”

Riley Keough’s husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, read a statement on her behalf near the end of the service:

“‘Thank you for being my mother in this life,’ he said,” he read. “‘I will be eternally grateful for the 33 years I spent with you. I’m certain I chose the best mother in the world for me, and I’ve known that since I can remember you. I recall how it felt to be loved by the most caring mother I’ve ever known.

“Thank you for demonstrating that love is the only thing that matters in this life. I hope I can love my daughter as you did me, as you did my brothers and sisters. Thank you for giving me your strength, heart, empathy, courage, sense of humor, manners, temper, wildness, and tenacity. I am the result of your heart. My sisters are the result of your love. My brother is a result of your love. We are who you are. You represent us. Thank you if I didn’t say it every day.”
