He went to Tower House School and then Westminster School, a public school on the grounds of Westminster Abbey. While in America, he met comedians Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish, as well as Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, with whom he traveled. Louis Theroux began his career as a reporter for the San Jose-based free weekly newspaper “Metro Silicon Valley.” In 1992, he started writing for Spy magazine. During this time, he also served as a correspondent for the ‘TV Nation’ series. He obtained a partnership with the BBC to create the documentary series “Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends” after the series ended. Theroux has contributed to publications such as ‘The Idler’ and ‘Hip Hop Connection.’ In 1998, Louis Theroux directed the BBC documentary “Weird Weekends.” In this documentary, viewers were given brief glimpses into the lives of American subcultures such as black nationalists, survivalists, adult film stars, and white supremacists.

After that, Theroux produced the documentary ‘When Louis Met…,’ in which he interviewed a different British celebrity every episode. Then he went back to work on his BBC Two specials. In these episodes, which first aired in 2003, the British-American documentary filmmaker returned to American topics and worked in a more natural approach. The critical acclaim of a 2007 episode titled “The Most Hated Family in America” was lauded by the international media.
