College life Career

Chalmers attended the University of Kansas for his undergraduate studies. Initially, he was not a starter for Kansas’ basketball team.

However, he finally earned a spot in the starting lineup. In addition, he started 21 of the team’s final 22 games as a freshman.

Also in his freshman year in college, he had a decent basketball career. In his rookie year, Mario averaged 11.5 points per game. It was the Kansas team’s second-highest score.

Chalmers, on the other hand, accomplished a lot more in his first year of college. With 89 steals in a single season, he set the record for most steals in a single season. For a first-year student, it was a new high.

Chalmers averaged 12.3 points per game as a sophomore. In addition, Super Mario holds the record for most steals in a single season for Kansas. In his sophomore year, he recorded a total of 97 steals.

Chalmers was a reliable performer for Kansas even as a junior. He had a 12.8 point and 4.3 assist per game average. He also had 97 steals this season, matching his sophomore season total.

The NBA draft was announced in 2008, and the American athlete declared himself available. Chalmers’ number 15 jersey was retired by the University of Kansas in 2013.

Mario Chalmers’ Miami Heat Career

Chalmers was a key member of the Miami Heat from 2008 to 2015 before coming back in 2021.

Chalmers was selected 34th overall in the NBA draft in 2008. The Timberwolves selected him in the second round. Chalmers’ rights were then traded to the Miami Heat as part of a deal. He was quickly signed by the Heat.

Chalmers was exempted from the NBA’s rookie transition program in September 2008.

Chalmers set a franchise record for most steals in a game with nine in November. It was his fourth NBA game at the time.

Chalmers wore No. 6 for the Heat during his first two seasons with the team. Chalmers gave his number 6 jersey to LeBron James when the Heat acquired him in 2010.
