In 1984, he received international acclaim for his performance of the antagonist, the psychopathic sensei of the Cobra Kai school, John Kreese, in The Karate Kid. He also appeared in the film’s subsequent sequels. He played the part again in the 2018 web series Cobra Kai.

Other significant appearances for Kove include the classic American action-drama Rambo II, in which he co-starred with Sylvester Stallone, and the 1994 American biographical-western Wyatt Earp, in which he co-starred with Kevin Costner. He has appeared in nearly 80 films, mostly in the action/thriller genre, with roles in films including White Line Fever and Bare Knuckles.
