Maxine Waters is a California congresswoman who has represented the state’s 43rd congressional district since 1991. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1938, to Remus Carr and Velma Lee (née Moore). Many believe Congresswoman Her to be one of the most prominent women in politics today. She was elected to the California State Assembly in 1976 and eventually became majority whip.
