Mike Glennon’s Childhood

Michael Joseph Glennon was born in Fairfax County, Virginia on December 12, 1989, to parents John and Nancy Glennon. Glennon was a member of the Westfield High School football team, the Westfield Bulldogs.

He completed 171 of 265 passes for 2,557 yards and 32 touchdowns during his senior year of high school. Mike contributed to his team’s undefeated record of 15-0 to 6 AAA State Championship. He won the Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year award.

Glennon continued to play football throughout his college years. He enrolled at North Carolina State University and began playing football for the Wolfpack. He redshirted his freshman year before taking over as the backup quarterback for starting quarterback Russel Wilson in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, he made the starting lineup and finished the season with 283 of 453 passes for 3,054 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

He finished his final season at the university with 330 of 564 passes for 4,031 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions.

Mike Glennon entered the 2013 NFL Draft and was selected 73rd overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round. He was the third quarterback selected in the draft, trailing only E. Geno Smith and J. Manuel On June 12, 2013, Glennon signed a four-year contract with the team worth $3,104,063 plus a $637,500 signing bonus.

Glennon took over for Josh Freeman in Week 4 of the 2013 season after the team went 0-3 to begin the season. He was able to throw his first career touchdown pass to wide receiver Mike Williams in the game, but he also threw a critical late interception to Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson, resulting in a 13-0 loss.

Mike Glennon’s rookie season ended with an 83.9 pass rating and a completion rate of 59.4 percent. He completed 246 of 416 passes for 2,608 yards, 19 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Coach Career of Mike Glennon

In the 2014 season, the Buccaneers hired a new head coach, Lovie Smith, who announced Josh McCown as the starting quarterback. McCown suffered a thumb injury in Week 3 and Glennon took his place in the second half. During McCown’s absence due to injury, Glennon took over as the Buccaneers’ starting quarterback for the next five games.

Glennon’s Buccaneers finished the season with a 2-14 record and a 1-4 record. Glennon finished with an 83.3 passer rating, completing 117 of 203 passes for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.

Mike Glennon did not see any action on the field during the 2015 season. He was retained as a backup for Jameis Winston, the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Glennon was only able to play in two games during the 2016 season, which was similar to the previous year.

On March 9, 2017, Glennon left the Buccaneers and signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Chicago Bears. On September 4, 2017, he was named the Bears’ starting quarterback.
