On May 10, 1995, Missy Franklin was born in Pasadena, California; however, her family eventually moved to Centennial, Colorado. At the 2011 National Championships, Franklin placed 12th in the 50-meter freestyle and fourth in the 200-meter individual medley. She overcame Shiho Sakai’s previous 200-meter backstroke record of 2:00.13 at the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup. Also, She achieved yet another world record in 3:45.56 at the 2011 Duel in the Pool.
