Muggsy Bogues was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on January 9, 1965. Richard Bogues and Elaine Bogues welcomed him into the world.Sherron Bogues (Deceased), Anthony Bogues, and Chuckie Bogues are his siblings. The Bogues twins grew up in Baltimore’s Lafayette Court housing complexes.

Muggsy’s father was imprisoned, leaving his mother to raise their children alone. Later that year, in August 1993, his father died of pneumonia in Baltimore.

Chuckie, like his father, has struggled with heroin addiction. In 1995, he moved in with his brother to assist him in overcoming his addiction.

Similarly, his sister Sherron worked for the Baltimore Department of Recreation and Parks before succumbing to cancer in 2015 at the age of 55.

He was a member of his high school’s Dunbar Poets basketball team, where he was mentored by coach Bob Wade. Bob Wade later became the University of Maryland’s head coach.

In high school, he was classmates with future NBA players David Wingate (a senior), Reggie Williams, and Reggie Lewis (classmates).

The Dunbar Poets went 29-0 during the 1981-82 season. Bogues was a junior at the time. Similarly, when Bogues was a senior, they finished the season 31-0. Indeed, USA Today named the Dunbar Poets top in the country.

Bogues enrolled in North Carolina’s Wake Forest University.He played four years of college basketball. In his junior year, he averaged 11.3 points, 8.4 assists, and 3.1 steals per game.

Additionally, he averaged 14.8 points, 9.5 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game as a senior.He finished his undergraduate career as the ACC’s career leader in steals and assists.

Bogues competed for the United States of America in the 1986 FIBA World Championship. His team won the tournament’s gold medal.Bogues spent several seasons in the United States Basketball League (USBL) with the Rhode Island Gulls.

The Washington Bullets selected him 12th overall in the 1987 NBA draft. He was also a member of the talented. Additionally, the class featured David Robinson, Reggie Miller, Scottie Pippen, and Kevin Johnson.

Bogues was a teammate of Manute Bol, who was 7 feet 7 inches (2.31 m) tall during his debut season. They were the NBA’s tallest and shortest players, separated by 28 inches (71 cm). Manute Bol and Muggsy appeared together on three magazine covers.

Hornets de Charlotte

Bogues joined the Charlotte Hornets following his time with the Washington Bullets. On June 22, 1998, the Charlotte Hornets selected him in the expansion draft.

While with the Charlotte Hornets, he established himself as an amazing passer, a brilliant stealer, and one of the fastest players on the court.

In 1988-89, the Charlotte Hornets faced the Miami Heat.

Muggsy was assigned the guard position. He performed admirably without any assistance from his teammates.

He spent ten years with the Charlotte Hornets, a team captained by Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson.

While Bogues was with the Charlotte Hornets, they established themselves as one of the most popular NBA teams and a constant playoff challenger.

Bogues has been one of the Charlotte Hornets’ most popular players throughout the franchise’s history. He was the Hornets’ career leader in minutes played (19,678), assists (5,557), steals (1,067), turnovers (1,118), and assists per 48 minutes (13.5).

After six games of the 1997-98 season, the Charlotte Hornets traded Bogues and Tony Delk to the Golden State Warriors. The swap was for B. J. Armstrong.He later signed with the Toronto Raptors as a free agency. He played basketball for the Raptors till the conclusion of his career.

The Toronto Raptors, on the other hand, traded Bogues to the New York Knicks and later to the Dallas Mavericks. He appeared in just one game for each of these teams.

Muggsy Bogues established a successful NBA career despite widespread doubts about his height. In a similar vein, many said that Michael Jordan wrecked Muggsy’s career during the Bulls’ 1995 first-round matchup against the Charlotte Hornets.

As a side note, this statement was entirely predicated on a single line Jordan spoke to Bogues. Jordan allegedly stated, “Shoot the ball, midget!”

Following then, Bogues missed the shot. Later, Bogues stated unequivocally that the single statement had no bearing on him.

Bogues ventured into real estate following his retirement from the NBA. He continued to do so until August 3, 2005.

Career in Coaching

Bogues was hired as the Women’s National Basketball Association’s coach by the Charlotte Sting (WNBA).

Bogues lacked coaching expertise but yet did an excellent job.

Charlotte Sting amassed a 14-30 record while under his tutelage. The team, however, was disbanded in January 2007.

Bogues then became the head coach of Charlotte, North Carolina’s United Faith Christian Academy boys’ high school basketball team. In 2011, he was named head coach. Prior to that, he assisted former head coach Shaun Wiseman.

He also made a guest appearance on an episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by Charles Barkley. Bogues was also featured in an episode of Hang Time, when he spoke out against the use of steroids.

He was then seen in “Rebound,” the season seven premiere of Royal Pains. In the episode, Harry attends a welcoming party held by Ms. “New Parts” Newberg.
