NC State Radio Broadcaster Gary Hahn Suspended Indefinitely After “Illegal Aliens” Remark

Learfield Communications, the broadcast rightsholder in North Carolina, reprimanded Gary Hahn.

“Among all the illegal aliens in El Paso, UCLA has 14, Pittsburgh has 6,” Hahn added. “With 11:15 left in the second quarter.”

In a statement provided by the school, Wolfpack Sports Properties general manager Kyle Winchester said the broadcaster was suspended “indefinitely from his agreement following statements made during today’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl radio broadcast.” N.C. State directed questions to Learfield’s statement.

Gary Hahn Suspended

On December 21, Sun Bowl Association executive director Bernie Olivas said that the Bowl had postponed. And its annual “fan fiesta” because the city’s convention center was being used to accommodate refugees awaiting immigration determinations.

Hahn, who has been N.C. State’s radio voice since the 1990-91 season and was named N.C. Sportscaster of the Year in 2010 and 2020, did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment from The Associated Press.

Maryland defeated North Carolina State 16-12 in Charlotte.
