Norm Abram worked as a site supervisor for a large construction firm after graduating from college. He worked for the firm for three years before launching his own general contracting firm (Integrated Structures) in 1976.

So, how did Abram get his start on television? He was recruited in 1979 to construct a garage and a garden shed in the home of PBS producer and director Russell Morash. Morash was so impressed with Abram’s work that he invited him to join them in renovating a run-down house for a television show.
