Rex Orange County is ‘grateful’ after sexual-assault case dropped days before trial

Days before it was scheduled to go to trial, British prosecutors dropped their sexual assault case against musician Rex Orange County.

According to the BBC, the Crown Prosecution Service stated on Thursday that the evidence in the singer’s case “no longer met” its legal requirements for a prosecution.

No matter how difficult it may be, we will always try to prosecute sexual offenses if our legal requirements are met.

After a lady accused the “Best Friend” musician, 24, of repeatedly assaulting her in London in June, he was charged with six counts of sexual assault. When he appeared in court in October, he entered a plea of not guilty to each charge, and a provisional trial date of January 3 was established.

The British artist said in a statement uploaded on his Twitter and Instagram accounts on Thursday, “I have always denied these allegations and am grateful that the independent evidence has absolved me of any wrongdoing.”

I have never assaulted anyone, and I do not support any form of violent or abusive behavior, he declared.

The musician was reportedly charged with assaulting a lady twice on June 1 in London’s West End, according to a report from The Sun in October. O’Connor was also charged with attacking the woman in a taxi and three times the following day at his Notting Hill residence, according to the woman.

O’Connor stated on Thursday that he wanted to address specifics surrounding the accusations as well as what he called “inaccuracies about the case that have circulated.”

Rex Orange County Sexual Assault Charges Dropped

“One evening, I was falsely accused of touching someone’s leg, neck, back, and bottom. Six sexual assault charges resulted from that, according to his statement.

He said, “The person’s account was the only proof against me. “However, the police’s discovery of CCTV footage refuted their account of what happened. Their spouse was also present the entire time and provided a statement to the police that contradicted the accusations made against me.

“I’d like to thank the people who have supported me through it, as well as my family and loved ones for their continuous support,” he said. “It’s been a terrible period for everyone concerned.

O’Connor’s followers expressed their relief with the development in the replies and comments sections of his social media posts.

One Instagram user wrote, “Okay thank god, I can listen to his music again.”

Another person said, “Y’all were so fast to cancel him.”

Disrespect to everyone who attacked him from the beginning and is suddenly changing tactics, said one commenter.

Another user on Twitter joked, “This one tweet has saved a lot of Spotify playlists today.”

Another tweet said, “The sad part is, even though charges were dropped and he was cleared of all allegations and has proof to support it, his career will still suffer.” “Once you’ve been charged with something like that, people start to view you differently.”

The British-born singer gained notoriety a few months after releasing his album “Apricot Princess” in 2017 after making appearances on the tracks “Boredom” and “Foreword” from Tyler, the Creator’s album “Flower Boy.” Following the release of his third album, “Who Cares?,” which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 album chart, O’Connor gave a performance at the Hollywood Bowl on June 2.

He postponed a number of tour dates in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand towards the beginning of July due to “unforeseen personal problems” that prevented him from “continuing with touring as scheduled.”
