Written by Chris W. Mitchell and Miguel Tejada-Flores, Richard Raaphorst’s 2013 horror film Frankenstein’s Army stars Karel Roden, Joshua Sasse, and Robert Gwilym. The film is an international co-production between the United States, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands and is based on the Eastern Front of World War II as seen through the eyes of a Red Army unit.

In the movie, Soviet troops advancing into Germany clash with mechanical zombie warriors created by a mad scientist who is a direct descendant of Victor Frankenstein. The legends of Frankenstein’s monster troubled filmmaker Richard Raaphorst as a child.

He immediately turned to the Frankenstein mythos when coming up with ideas for monster movies, expanding it to include World War II. Raaphorst claimed that despite the absurdity of the idea of a Frankenstein army during World War II, he was fascinated by it. The comedy-horror movie Worst Case Scenario was directed by Dutch filmmaker Richard Raaphorst. The novel depicts a potential 2006 FIFA World Cup Final between Germany and the Netherlands. Invasion of the Nazi undead begins when the German team loses.

 

A small group of friends escape the civil unrest to a North Sea island, where they find a legion of Nazi zombies waiting for them. The movie began shooting in 2004, and Gorehound Inc. released a teaser and trailer in 2006.

In a restricted promo format on DVD, the movie’s trailer received a nomination for Best Movie Trailer at the 2005 Golden Trailer Awards.
