After receiving a $30,000 insurance payout at the age of 14, Yancey completed his first real estate contract, which he utilized to purchase a second deed of trust on a home mortgage as an investment with a 14 percent interest rate. When Yancey was still in college, he was recruited as a runner by Walter J. Plumb III, a real estate attorney and businessman.
