Sid was raised in the small town of Branchville, Virginia, according to the Sidkingsleymusic website. He grew up in the land of peanut farmers, cotton producers, and indigenous American Indians, learning about the history of the Old South. It was also the site of Nat Turner’s slave revolt in 1831, and his father used to take him there as a child to see the houses where the violence took place.

Sid has been surrounded by music since he was a boy, as his father plays the drums and his grandmother plays the piano and organ.
