He has four siblings who are Nick Kerr, Susan Kerr, Andrew Kerr, and John Kerr.

Steve’s father was an American academic who specialized in the Middle East, and he spent the majority of his childhood in Lebanon and the Middle East as a result. His father was murdered when he was 18 years old.
