On February 6, 2001, Felder was fired by the Eagles. Then, during their feud with his former bandmates, Don filed two lawsuits against Don Henley and Glenn Frey for unjust dismissal. Furthermore, Felder said that Henley and Glenn “insisted on receiving a bigger percentage of the band’s revenue beginning with the 1994 Hell Freezes Over tour.” Previously, the money had been divided into five equal parts. Don further accused them of making a deal in which Henley and Frey would share three times as much of the income from Selected Works: 1972–1999 as Felder. The box set, which was released in November 2000, sold over 267,000 copies and brought in over $16 million.

Felder revealed that he remained friends with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner, two other Eagles members, in a 2008 interview with Howard Stern. When asked if he still communicates with Frey or Henley, he stated that the only responses he receives are from their lawyers.
