Susanna Hoffs was born on January 17, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, to a Jewish family. Tamar Ruth and Joshua Allen Hoffs are her parents. Her father is a psychotherapist, while her mother is a director, writer, and producer. Jesse Hoffs and John Hoffs are her two brothers. Hoffs graduated from Palisades High School in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, in 1976. She began working as a production assistant after graduating.

In 1980, Hoffs earned a bachelor’s degree in art from the University of California, Berkeley. She went to the final Sex Pistols show at Winterland Ballroom while still in college. She had also gone to a Patti Smith performance at the time.

Susanna Hoffs and her friends Debbi Peterson and Vicki Peterson formed the punk band The Bangs. Hoffs was heavily influenced by the Ramones and other punk bands. The Bangs’ debut album, The Night Before It Was Passed, was released in 2008. Following a legal lawsuit by an East Coast boy band, they renamed their band The Bangles.

Career as a member of ‘The Bangles’

The Bangles released their debut full-length album, All Over the Place, on Columbia Records in 1984. Different Light, released in 1986, was one of the band’s early mainstream breakthrough albums. It contained chart-topping hits such as Manic Monday, If She Knew What She Wanted, and Walk Like an Egyptian.

In 1988, The Bangles released their third studio album, Everything. Hoffs wrote the song ‘In Your Room,’ which was published by the band the same year. The track finally charted in the top ten. Career as an Actor
