Tom Shields was born on July 11, 1991, and is an American swimmer. A native of Huntington Beach, California, Shields specializes in butterfly and freestyle swimming. He swam in the 2016 Olympic final, second in the 100-metre and 200-metre butterfly events.

Along with that, the talented swimmer still holds American records, captured NCAA titles along with two national teams in California. Shields started to dive competitively at the age of eight. He had won numerous titles and tournaments during his academic year. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, before starting a swim career.
