While wrestling for the New England-based Century Wrestling Alliance (CWA) in 1992, he changed his name to Tommy Dreamer. On November 5, 1992, he defeated “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas in the tournament final held in Wallingford, Connecticut, to become the organization’s inaugural Heavyweight Champion. At NWA Bloodfest in October 1993, he signed on with Eastern Championship Wrestling (ECW), and at The Night the Line Was Crossed, he made wrestling history by being the first person to kick out of the pin that comes after Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka’s Superfly “Splash.” Although his first “major” feud in ECW was with the blind Sandman angle, his later, protracted conflict with Raven, which began in January 1995, is undoubtedly his most memorable. Throughout 1996, while engaged in his other rivalry with Raven, he was in a conflict with “Prime Time” Brian Lee. At High Incident in October 1996, a scaffold match between the two teams marked the end of the feud as Dreamer sent Lee flying over multiple tables into the ring below.

Additionally, he began a symbolic rivalry with Jerry “The King” Lawler of the World Wrestling Federation after Raven switched to World Championship Wrestling. Lawler represented the more “old school” methods of the World Wrestling Federation and United States Wrestling Association, while Tommy represented the “new school” methods of Extreme Championship Wrestling. In 1998, Tommy and The Dudley Boyz (Buh Buh Ray and D-Von) got into a brief dispute in which they “broke” Beulah’s neck. They used this incident to get Dreamer to accept a challenge for the ECW Tag Team Championship they had won earlier in the evening on their final night in the organization in August 1999 at the Last Show at the Madhouse.

Additionally, he defeated Tazz at CyberSlam to win the title of World Heavyweight Champion in 2000, only to lose it to Justin Credible 30 minutes later. Tommy remained with ECW until its demise in 2001, winning a “I Quit” match against C.W. Anderson at the final pay-per-view, Guilty as Charged, and teaming up with Danny Doring to defeat Julio Dinero and EZ Money at the final independent ECW show. Before joining the World Wrestling Federation, he first competed in a number of independent leagues across the nation, including Jersey All Pro Wrestling and Combat Zone Wrestling (WWF). Later, on July 9, 2001, he was presented to WWF viewers in an episode of “Raw” as a participant in the WCW/ECW Alliance’s Invasion angle.

When the angle concluded in November, he was transferred to the WWF’s Heartland Wrestling Association, which serves as its “farm territory.” In 2003, he competed in the Royal Rumble for the first time. He brought weapons and broke Bill DeMott’s hand during the bout. He had a significant role in the 2005 World Wrestling Entertainment pay-per-view “reunion show” for ECW One Night Stand. Along with other former ECW veterans, he participated in “Raw” episodes that served as promotional platforms for the event. He wrestled the Dudley Boyz with The Sandman in the main event, while Terry Funk was a part of an angle for the 2006 show. In late 2007, he took part in the ECW brand’s elimination tournament to determine the top challenger for the ECW Championship.

He won the final match against Burke, only to be forced to compete against Big Daddy V by ECW general manager Armando Estrada, who swiftly defeated him for the top spot. In February (2008–2009), Dreamer was teamed as a type of mentor with Colin Delaney, an ECW brand enhancement star who was often and easily defeated on the weekly ECW television program. After defeating The Miz and John Morrison in a non-title bout, they challenged them for the WWE Tag Team Championship. However, they lost the title battle in the Extreme Rules match in March. He qualified for the five-way Singapore cane battle at One Night Stand, which determined Big Show as the top contender for the championship at WrestleMania XXIV. Big Show won the match.

Additionally, after Mark Henry won the ECW Championship at Night of Champions, he was given his first challenger. After Colin Delaney betrayed him and cost him the match at The Great American Bash, Dreamer defeated Delaney again on August 12, 2008, in an Extreme Rules Grudge Encounter, which would be Delaney’s final match in the WWE. Henry then defeated Delaney to win the championship. He then focused on Jack Swagger, who made derogatory remarks about Dreamer and ECW but ended the rivalry by defeating Dreamer in an Extreme Rules battle.

On the ECW episode from January 13th, 2009, Tommy made the announcement that he would no longer compete for ECW if he didn’t capture the ECW Championship by June 6, the date his WWE contract was set to expire. In the plot, Dreamer began a losing run, which was broken on the “ECW” program from February 24 when he defeated Paul Burchill. He was given a one-day extension on his contract, giving him one last shot at the ECW Championship. At Extreme Rules, he faced the champion Christian and Jack Swagger in a triple threat match, where Dreamer pinned Swagger to win his second ECW Championship nearly ten years after winning the first. Dreamer is the only person to have held the title in both the original ECW and the ECW brand of the WWE.

Later, he successfully defended the championship in a Championship Scramble match at The Bash after defeating Christian on the 15th June episode of “Raw.” Tommy wrestled Zack Ryder on the ECW episode airing on December 29 and lost. If he were to lose the fight, he (kayfabe) would have to give up ringside combat. After working for WWE for eight years, he was officially let go by the business a few days later, on January 4, 2010. On June 13, 2010, at Slammiversary VIII, Dreamer made his debut for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. By showing up in the audience and distracting Brother Ray, he cost him his bout against Jesse Neal. On the 29th July episode of “Impact!” he competed for TNA for the first time, losing to Abyss in a No Disqualification match.

After taking a break from television, he subsequently made a comeback on the “Impact!” broadcast of February 24 and got involved in the conflict between the former tag team members Bully Ray and Brother Devon. On the May 5th edition of “Impact!” he was compelled to assault A.J. Styles and join Immortal in order to keep his job in TNA. He made his formal heel turn in the following “Impact Wrestling” program. This was Dreamer’s first time wrestling as a heel since joining the Alliance during his WWF/E stint. He announced on June 6 that his final performance for the promotion would be at TNA’s home show in Memphis, Tennessee on June 11.

He made his pay-per-view debut for Dragon Gate USA in Phoenix, Arizona on March 27, where he lost a hard-hitting match to Jon Moxley that was taped for the Mercury Rising pay-per-view. On January 23, 2010, he made his debut for Dragon Gate USA, sparing Jacobs and Lacey from a beating at the hands of Moxley. On February 20, he defeated Shane Douglas, a fellow former ECW champion, to win the title of promotion’s Universal Heavyweight Champion. Also, on April 25, he made his debut for Philadelphia-based Chikara, challenging Eddie Kingston to a match at the anniversary show on May 23. Kingston won the match by disqualification after being attacked by Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (BDK) members Ares and Claudio Castagnoli, who are both members of Chikara.

He competed for Family Wrestling Entertainment on July 28, 2012, winning a four-way elimination match over Jay Lethal, Brian Kendrick, and Carlito to become the new FWE Heavyweight Champion. On November 25, 2012, he made his Wrestling New Classic (WNC) debut by competing in the WNC Championship tournament and winning his first-round bout against Yusuke Kodama. WNC was the successor promotion to Smash. On February 16, 2013, he lost his attempt to win the FWE Heavyweight Championship in a TLC match against Carlito and Matt Hardy. In addition, he launched his own wrestling promotion and school in 2012 under the name House of Hardcore, the previous name of the ECW wrestling academy. On October 6, 2012, the promotion made its debut at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. In the first show’s main event, which also featured Mike Knox, he lost the FWE Heavyweight Championship to Carlito in a three-way contest. On November 9, 2013, he competed in the main event of House of Hardcore 3. Sean Waltman and Lance Storm were defeated by Dreamer and Terry Funk. In one of the 38 episodes of House of Hardcore, on March 23, 2018, Tommy defeated Joey Mercury in a grueling street fight battle.

The day following this event, Dreamer competed against Nick Aldis for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, but he was unsuccessful in winning the belt. In addition, he rejoined TNA in late 2013 and competed against Ethan Carter III at two home shows. On December 29, 2013, at TNA Hardcore Justice 3, Dreamer lost to Carter III in a Tables match.
On the August 27th episode of Impact Wrestling, he was also defeated by TNA World Heavyweight Champion Lashley in a non-title New York City street battle. He apparently lost his job as a result of a dispute with other producers, though, after calling off the India Tour.

More on Career

He made a second appearance in Impact Wrestling on the edition of April 12 when he defended Moose and Eddie Edwards from an attack by Ohio Versus Everything and then challenged them to a House of Hardcore match at Redemption, which he ultimately lost. At Bound for Glory, Dreamer defended Edwards from an attack by Killer Kross and Moose, which prompted a tag team bout that the team won. On January 23, 2019, it was made public Tommy Dreamer would now be contributing to Impact Wrestling’s creative staff. He unsuccessfully challenged Moose to an unofficial TNA World Heavyweight Championship Old School Rules match at Slammiversary, then in 2018 he joined Major League Wrestling as a performer and match agent behind the scenes.

In September 2018, during MLW War Games, he would play his first game following the promotion. Then he started a feud with Brian Pillman Jr. over his disrespect for veterans like himself and Kevin Sullivan, and he defeated Pillman in their first meeting. However, three weeks later, on the December 21st episode of “MLW Fusion,” Pillman would pin Dreamer in a tag team match. In a Singapore Cane match on the 11th January 2019 episode of “Fusion,” Pillman prevailed over Dreamer. He competed in the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Casino Battle Royale in their first pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing, on May 25, 2019, however he lost because Jimmy Havoc eliminated him. He produced the show backstage at their PPV All Out that followed.
