The now-81-year-old was born and raised in Wichita Falls, Texas, as the son of Jim Tune, an oil rig worker, horse trainer, and restaurateur, and Eva Mae Clark. He went to Mirabeau B. Lamar High School in Houston and Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama from the University of Texas at Austin in 1962. He earned his Master of Fine Arts in Directing from the University of Houston.
